PIPERAZINE
Brand Names : Worm-Away;
Wurmirazin; Lumbrical; Arthriticin; Dispermine.
It is prepared by the actionofalcoholic ammonia on ethylene
chloride (Hofmann amine synthesis); by catalytic deamination of
diethylenetriamine and of ethylenediamine, and by cyclization of ethylene diamine
by the action of heat on its hydrochloride.
Piperazine is a crystalline solid, m.p. 106°, salty taste, abserbs
water and CO, from air and freely soluble in water, glycerol and glycols. It
crystallizes as leaflets from alcohol and as a low melting hexahydrate from
wat It combines with two equivalents of
acids. It is a stronger base than ammonia. It has all the expected properties
of a secondary amine. It is stored in airtight containers.
