ACETYLDIGITOXIN
Brand Name: Acylanid.
Acetyldigitoxin is obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis of lanatoside
A. It is composed of the aglycone digitoxigenin and 3 molecules of digitoxose,
to one of which an acetyl group is attached. Acetyldigitoxin-α differs from
acetyldigitoxin-β in the position of the acetyl group. The β-form is obtained
either by splitting off the glucose residue from lanatoside-A by means of
enzymes, or by extraction from the leaves of Digitalis ferruginea (Fam.
Scrophulariacae).
Acetyldigitoxin, m.p. 217-221°, is a white microcrystalline
hygroscopic powder which is slightly soluble in chloroform and water but is
more liposoluble. Akcoholic or hydroakcoholic solutions slowly lose the acetyl
group by hydrolysis.
Acetyldigitoxin is absorbed equally when taken orally. It is less
toxic and more safe than digitoxin. It is dissipated twice as fast as
digitoxin.
Uses: Acetyldigitoxin is a cardiotonic agent.
