ACRIFLAVINE
It occurs as a deep oraige, odourless.
granular powder. One gram dissolves in about 3 ml of water. It is sparingly
soluble in alcohol; nearly insoluble in ether, chloroform and fixed oil.
Aqueous solutions are reddish orange, show marked fluorescence on dilution and are sensitive to
light. The compound is nearly neutral, it is less irritating to
tissues than the acriflavine hydrochloride.
Uses
The compound is antiseptic and
anti-infective. It is used locally in wounds in trichomoniasis of bulls.
