AMODIAQUINE HYDROCHLORIDE

Brand Names : CAMAQI; Camoquin; Flavoquine; Miaquine.

Amodiaquine hydrochloride occurs as a yellow, odourless bitter crystalline powder, m.p. 150-160°. It is soluble in water; sparingly soluble in alcohol; very slightly soluble in benzene, chloroform and ether. A 2% aqueous solution has a pH of 3.6 to 4.6. It is stored in airtight containers.



Uses :

1.     Amodiaquine hydrochloride is an antimalarial drug which has an action similar to that of chloroquine.

2.      Amodiaquine is highly effective against Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum infections, being three to four times as active as quinine. However, it has no effect on P. falciparum.

HOMATROPINE

HOMATROPINE Brand Names : Mandelyltropeine, Tropine mandelate. Homatropine is a synthetic alkaloid which is a lower homologue of atropine. It is prepared by the interaction of tropine and mandelic acid. Homatropine, m.p. 99-100°, occurs as colourless, odourless crystals or a white crystalline powder. It is hygroscopic, but only slightly soluble in water; soluble in alcohol, benzene, chloroform, ether, acetone and dilute acids. The hydrobromide or hydrochloride is obained readily from the free base by neutralizing with hydrobromic or hydrochkoric acid. The hydrobromide occurs as colourless, odourless crystals or a white crystalline powder. It is soluble in water and alcohol; slightly soluble in chloroform; very slightly soluble in ether; stored in airtight containers and protected from light.
