AMPICILLIN SODIUM
Brand Names : Sodium amplicillin; Alpen-N-Amcill-S; Cilleral,
Domicilin; Omnipen-N;
Pen A/N: Penbritin-S:
Penialmen; Polycillin-N; Principen/N; Ampicillinnatrium; Ampicillinum Natricum; The sodium
salt of amplicillin.
It
occurs as a white to off-white odourless, crystalline or amorphous, hygroscopic
powder; decomposes at about 205. It is soluble in water (1 in 2) and acetone (1
in 50); slightly soluble in chloroform,
practically
insoluble in ether, liquid paraffin, and fixed oils). It is stored at a
temperature not exceeding 25° in well closed container .
Stability
of Ampicillin sodium in aqueous solutions is enin; dependent on many factors
including concentration, pH, S; temperature and the nature of the vehicle.
Stability decreases significantly
in the presence of glucose, fructose, invert sugar, dextrans and lactate.
