Ampicillin trihydrate
is a white, odourless, crystalline powder owder; slightly soluble in water;
practically insoluble in alcohol chloroform, ether, and fixed oils. It dissolves in
dilute solutions Ctive of acids and of alkalies. It is stored at a temperature
not exceeding 30° in airtight containers .
Uses

Ampicillin is used in the treatment of a
variety of infections due to susceptible organisms, including respiratory tract
infections, urinary tract infections, gonorrhoea, enteric und infection,
meningitis and septicaemica.

The dosage of amplicillin. will depend on the
severity of the disease, the age of the patient pen; and their renal functions;
the dose should be reduced in renal lec). failure. Ampicillin is usually
administered by mouth as the Oral trihydrate and by injection as the sodium
salt.
Adverse Side Effect
Adverse
effects of Ampicillin are identical to that of to benzylpenicillin sodium.
Allergic reactions occur in sensitised Eure persons. Skin rashes are among the
most common side-effects. Gastro-intestinal adverse effects particularly
diarrhoea and also nausea and vomiting occur quite frequently.
