Bishydroxycoumarin
is a white or creamy-white crystalline powder with a pleasant faint odour. It
is readily soluble in solutions of alkali hydroxides; slightly soluble in
chloroform: practically insoluble in water, alcohol and ether.
Uses :
Bishydroxycoumarin
is used orally as anticoagulant in the prophylaxis and treatment of
Intravascular clotting. It is employed in postoperative thrombophlebitis,
pulmonary embolus, , acute embolic and thrombotic occlusion of peripheral
arteries and recurrent idopathic thrombophlebitis to arrest impending gangrene
and frostbite.
Side Effect
The side effects of
bishydroxycoumarin are haemorrhage, skin necrosis and purple discolouration of
the toes.
