Cephalexin
has antibacterial activity similar to that of ampicillin. It occurs as a white
to cream-coloured, crystalline powder with a characteristic odour. It is
slightly soluble in water; practically insoluble in alcohol, chloroform, and
ether. Cephalexin is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is stored
at a temperature not exceeding 30° in airtight containers and protected from
light
Uses
Cephalexin is used to treat
infections of the respiratory and ary tracts and of skin and for otitis media.
Side Effect
Side-effects of cephalexin include , nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea,
and abdominal discomfort. Allergic reactions such as skin rashes, urticaria,
eosinophilia, angioedema and anaphylaxis may occur.
