CHLORAMBUCIL
Chlorambucil, m.p. 64-66, is a white or off-white crystalline or
granular powder. It is practically
insoluble in water; soluble in alcohol, acetone, chloroform and dilute
solutions of alkali hydroxides. It is stored in airtight containers and
protected from light. –
Uses : Chlorambucil is an antineoplastic agent and is most
valuable in lymphocytes. It is used in the treatment of chronic lymphocytic
leukaemia, Hodgkin's disease, incarcinoma of the breast, ovary and testes.
Side Effect
The side-effects include bone-marrow depression, gastrointestinal
disorders, hepatotoxicity, skin rashes, central neurotoxicity, including
seizures, interstitial pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis.
