It is an odourless, white or creamy-white crystalline powder,
othiazine- m.p. 179-180°. It decomposes on exposure to air and light nopropyl)
becoming yellow, pink, and finally violet. It is soluble in water (1 in 0.4),
alcohol (1 in 1.3) and chloroform (1 in 1); practically 26O1-A; insoluble in
ether and benzene; slightly acidic to litmus; stored in airtight containers and
protected from light.
Uses:
Chlorpromazine has sedative, anti-emetic, antipruritic, Aminazine;
sęda serotonin-blocking and weak antihistaminic properties. It is used in the
management of psychotic conditions, to control hyperkinetic states . It
controls excitement and agitation. It is anti-emetic and is used to control the
nausea and vomiting The phenothiazines and related neuroleptic
produce a - lesser degree of central depression than the barbiturates or
quantity of benzodiazepines. The adverse effects of phenothiazine include
dryness of mouth, constipation, urinary retention and mydriasis.
