CYCLOPHOSPHAMIDE

Cytophosphane; B518; Cytoxan; Endoxan; Procytox; Sendoxan.
Cyclophosphamide, m.p. 41-45°, is a fine, white crystalline
powder. It liquefies upon loss of its water of crystallization. It is soluble
in water, alcohol, benzene,ethylene glycol, carbon tetrachloride, dioxane;
sparingly solub in ether and acetone.
Uses: Cyclophosphamide is an antineoplastic agent which has marked
immunosuppressant properties. It is used in the treatment ofa variety of
malignant diseases including Burkitt's lymphoma. Hodgkin’s disease, leukaemia,
myeloma and mycosis fungoides. It is also used in the treatment of various
solid tumours such as tumours of the breast, cervix, lung and ovary.
Side Effect
Leucopenia, urinary complications, alopecia, hyper pigmentation of
skin, gastro-intestinal disorders, hepatotoxicity, disturbance of carbohydrate
metabolism and secretion of antidiuretic hormone, etc, are some side-effects of
cyclophosphamide therapy.
