Dextroamphetamine (Amphetamine)
It is a mobile, colourless with liquid amine-like odour and acrid burning taste,

Amphetamine is a strong base and forms an alkaline solution in
water. It contains an asymmetric carbon atom, and the synthetic compound is the
(t) - mixture. It is resolved by fractional crystallization of the D-tartrates
followed by treatment with 10% HSO. It may be prepared from phenylalanine.
Dextroamphetamine sulphate, the dextrorotatory isomer of amphetamine, is a
white, odourless, crystalline powder; m.p. 300* soluble in
water (1 in 10) and alcohol (1 in 800); practically insoluble in
ether; stored in well-closed containers .
Uses : Dextroamphetamine is a sympathomimetic agent with
adrenergic activity. It has marked stimulant effect on the central nervous
system.
Side Effect
The side-effects of dexamphetamine are overstimulation of the
central nervous system, insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, irritability and
euphoria. Excessive use may lead to tolerance and physical dependence.
