Furosemide, m.p., 206°, is a derivative
both of sulphanilamide and of anthranilic acid. It is a white or slightly
yellow, odourless, crystalline powder; practically insoluble in water and
chloroform, soluble in alcohol; freely soluble in acetone, dimethylformamide,
methanol and solutions of alka hydroxides; protected from light.
Uses: Furosemide
is a potent diuretic with rapid action used to treat oedema, hypertension and
renal insufficiency.
Side Effect
The most common side-effects of
furosemide are fluid and balance, allergy, nausea, diarrhoea, blurred
vision,dizziness, headache, pancreatitis, photosensitivity,skin rashes and
hypotension.
