Ibuprofen, m.p. 75-77, is a white powder or crystals with a
characteristic odour. It is practically insoluble in water; soluble in alcohol,
chloroform, ether, acetone and aqueous solutions of alkali hydroxides and
carbonates. It is kept in airtight containers.
Uses: Ibuprofen has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic
properties. It is used for the relief of pain in conditions such as
dysmenorrhoea, migraine, postoperative pain; rheumatic disorders and joint
disorders.
Adverse Effect
The most frequent adverse effect
occurring with ibuprofen are gastro-intestinal disturbances as well as
headache, dizziness, nervousness, skin rash, pruritus, tinnitus, oedema,
depression, drowsiness, insomnia and blurred vision.
