Imipramine hydrochloride, m.p. 174-175°, is a white or slightly
yellow, odourless, crystalline powder; soluble in water (1 in 2), alcohol,
chloroform and acetone; practically insoluble in ether. It acquires a yellow to
reddish colour under the influence of light. It is stored in airtight
containers and protected from light.
Uses: Imipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant used in the
treatment of mental depression, and for nocturnal enuresis in children.
