Lignocaine, m.p. 68-69, is a white, crystalline odourless
substance which is insoluble in water; soluble in alcohol, ether, benzene,
chloroform and oils.
Lignocaine
hydrochloride (Brand Names : Xylocard; Xyloneural; Lignostab; Nurocain) m.p.
127-129, is a white crystalline odourless powder which is soluble in water,
alcohol and chloroform. The hydrochloride or amine is the most stable local
anaesthetic. The ester-type local anaesthetics are generally prone to
hydrolysis in aqueous solution,
Use
Lignocaine
is a local anaesthetic and antiarrhythmic .
Adverse
Effect
Lignocaine has systemic adverse effects mainly involves the
central nervous system and the cardiovascular system. Excitation of the CNS may
be manifested by restlessness, excitement, nervousness, diizziness, tinnitus,
blurred Vision, nausea and yonaiting, muscle-twitching and tremors and
convulsions. Numbness of the tongue and perioral region may appear. Excitation
may be transient and followed by depression with drowsiness, respiratory
failure, and coma.
