Menadione, m.p. 105-107°. is a bright yellow crystalline powder.
It is insoluble in water, sparingly soluble in alcohol and methyl alcohol,
soluble in ether and vegetable oils: freely soluble in chloroform. The
alcoholic solution is neutral to litmus. Solutions may be heated to 120°
without decomposition. It is destroyed by alkalies and reducing agents. It is
affected by sunlight.
Uses : Menadione is a vitamin which inhibits the glucose
metabolism. It has antihaemorrhage action.
Side Effect
Menadione is irritating to mucous membranes, respiratory passages
and skin.
