Pralidoxime chloride is 2-formyl-l-methylpyridinium chloride
oxime. It is white or pale yellow, odourless crystalline powder;
freely soluble in water, m.p. 235-238°.
Uses: Pralidoxime chloride
is used as cholinesterase reactivator: as antidote for poisoning by parathion
and related pesticides. It is anticholinergic, cholinomimetic, it inhibits
cholinesterase, and potentiates the depresser action of acetylcholine. It is
most effective by intramuscular, subcutaneous or intravenous administration.
Adverse Effect
Adverse effects of pralidoximine are drowsiness, dizziness,
disturbances of vision, nausea, tachycardia, headache, hyperventilation and
muscular weakness.
