PRIMAQUINE PHOSPHATE

It is an orange-red, odourless, crystalline, bitter powder, m.p.
197-198°. It is moderately soluble in water, insoluble in chloroform and ether.
The aqueous solutions are acidic to litmus. The compound is protected from
light.
Uses: Primaquine is antimalarial and effective against plasmodia
parasite.
Adverse Effect
Primaquine is generally well tolerated at normal therapeutic
doses. Adverse effects include abdominal cramps, gastric distress, nausea and
vomiting, headache, visual disturbances, and pruritus.
