Sertan.
Primidone is a diketone derived from hexahydropyrimidine. The
chemical nature of primidone is similar to that of a cyclic diamide, and it has
none of the acidic character of barbituric acid and the barbiturates, which
have -CO- and not -CH,-between the two nitrogen atoms. It is prepared from
phenobarbitone by electrolytic reduction
Primidone, m.p. 281-282°, is white, odourless, tasteless,
crystalline powder. It is soluble in water (1 in 2000) and alcohol (1 in 200);
very slightly soluble or practically insoluble in most organic solvents.
Uses : Primidone is an anticonvulsant agent used chiefly to
control epileptiform seizures, i.e. grand mal and partial (focal) Seizures.
