PROFLAVINE

It occurs as orange red to brownish red , odourless , crystals , m.p. 261*c . It is soluble in water and etanol . insoluble in benzene and either , slightly soluble in chloroform

Uses

1.       It is used as tropical antiseptic .
2.       Proflavine and other acridine derivatives are slow acting antiseptics .
3.       They are used in the treatment of local wounds of ear , mouth , and throat .
