Pyridoxine hydrochloride is one of the vitamins of the B complex. It is present in many foodstuffs; especially good sources are yeast, liver and cereals. It occurs as a white, odourless, crystalline powder which is soluble in water and alcohol; practically insoluble in chloroform and ether. A        5 per cent solution in water has a pH of 2.4 to 3.0. Acidic aqueous solutions are stable and may be heated for 30 minutes at 120° without decomposition.

Uses : Pyridoxine is involved in amino acid metabolism, but is also involved in carbohydate and fat metabolism. It is used in the treatment and prevention of pyridoxine deficiency states.
