ROLITETRACYCLINE
It is prepared by condensing
tetracycline with pyrrolidine and formaldehyde in the presence of t-butyl
alcohol. This derivative has been introduced for use by injection. It occurs as
a light yellow crystalline powder or fine. pale needles, with a characteristic
musty amine-like odour, m.p. l62-165° (dec.). It is more soluble tetracycline
and its hydrochloride; soluble in water (Ol in 1.1), alcohol l in 200),
acetone, dilute acids and alkalies; very soluble in ether. It is stored in
airtight containers and protected from light.
Uses :
Rolitetracycline has antimicrobial
activity and uses similar to those of tetracycline hydrochloride.
Side Effect
Shivering and more rarely rigor may be
associated with the first few injections of rollitetracy line in infections due
to organisms highly sensitive to tetracyclines.
