SULFAGUANIDINE

The compound is a white, odourless crystalline powder; mp of anhydrous is 190-193*c. It is soluble in water (1:1000) at 25°, sparingly soluble in alcohol or acetone, freely soluble in cold dilute mineral acids and insoluble in sodium hydroxide solutions at room temperature. Hot alkaline solutions decompose the compound to sulfanilamide with the evalution of ammonia. It slowly darkens on exposure to light .

Uses

Sulfaguanidine is used for the treatment of local intestinal infections, particularly bacillary dysentery by oral administration. It is also employed for the treatment of coccidiosis in chickens and for other veterinary purposes like enteric infections. Adverse effects are the same as for sulfadiazine .

HOMATROPINE

HOMATROPINE Brand Names : Mandelyltropeine, Tropine mandelate. Homatropine is a synthetic alkaloid which is a lower homologue of atropine. It is prepared by the interaction of tropine and mandelic acid. Homatropine, m.p. 99-100°, occurs as colourless, odourless crystals or a white crystalline powder. It is hygroscopic, but only slightly soluble in water; soluble in alcohol, benzene, chloroform, ether, acetone and dilute acids. The hydrobromide or hydrochloride is obained readily from the free base by neutralizing with hydrobromic or hydrochkoric acid. The hydrobromide occurs as colourless, odourless crystals or a white crystalline powder. It is soluble in water and alcohol; slightly soluble in chloroform; very slightly soluble in ether; stored in airtight containers and protected from light.
