SUZFAMETHOXAZOLE

It is prepared starting with ethyl 5-methylisoxazole-3- carbamate and closely related to sulfisoxazole in chemical structure and antimicrobial activity(t occurs as a odourless, bitter, almost white, crystalline powder, m.p. 167.



 It is soluble in water (1 : 3400), alcohol (1:5O) and acetone (1:3); slightly soluble in chloroform (1:1000) and in solutions of alkali hydroxides. The suspension should be stored in air-tight containers and protected from light.


Uses :

The use of sulfamethoxazole and other sulfonamides has been ted by the increasing incidence of resistant organism. Their main use is in the treatment of acute, uncomplicated urinary tra ections.particularly those caused by Escherichla
coli

HOMATROPINE

HOMATROPINE Brand Names : Mandelyltropeine, Tropine mandelate. Homatropine is a synthetic alkaloid which is a lower homologue of atropine. It is prepared by the interaction of tropine and mandelic acid. Homatropine, m.p. 99-100°, occurs as colourless, odourless crystals or a white crystalline powder. It is hygroscopic, but only slightly soluble in water; soluble in alcohol, benzene, chloroform, ether, acetone and dilute acids. The hydrobromide or hydrochloride is obained readily from the free base by neutralizing with hydrobromic or hydrochkoric acid. The hydrobromide occurs as colourless, odourless crystals or a white crystalline powder. It is soluble in water and alcohol; slightly soluble in chloroform; very slightly soluble in ether; stored in airtight containers and protected from light.
