TRANYLCYPROMINE SULPHATE
TRANYLCYPROMINE SULPHATE
Brand Names : SKF trans-385;
Parnitene sulphate; Parnate; Tylciprine.
This cyclopropane derivative is prepared from styrene and ethyl
diazoacetate which yields ethyl 2-phenylcyclo- 6 propane carboxylate.
Hydrolysis of the carboxylate forms a mixture of cis and trans -
2-phenylcyclopropane carboxylic acid which produced respective acid chlorides
with thionyl chloride. Treatment with sodium azide in boiling toluene followed
by hydrolysis of the isocyanate (Curtius reaction) gives the desired compound.
Tranylcypromine sulphate occurs as a white crystalline powder;
odourless or with a faint odour of cinnamaldehyde. It is soluble in water (1 in
20); very slightly soluble in alcohol and in ether; practically insoluble in
chloroform; stored in well-closed containers.
Uses
It is used in the treatment ofneurotic ora typical depression.
