TRIFLUOPERAZINE
TRIFLUOPERAZINE
Trifluoperazine has the side-chain at position
10 as prochlor-perazine. It is synthesized by condensation of the same
chloro-amine with 2-trifluoromethylphenothiazine
which is prepared by cyclization of 3-trifluoromethyldiphenylamine with sulphur. It has a
piperazine side-chain.

It is a cream coloured, fine, odourless, slightly hygroscopic,
crystalline powder, m.p. 242-2439. It is freely soluble in water; insoluble in
dilute base, ether and benzene; stroed in airtight containers and protected
from light.
Uses: Trifluoperazine is a phenothiazine with actions, uses and
adverse effects similar to those of chlorpromazine.
